10/01/2013 Russian scientists tested the hypothesis submitted life on Earth from space
Scientists from the Institute of Biomedical Problems (IBMP), RAS will hold about 80 biological experiments in space during launch research satellite "Bion-M" № 1 in the spring of this year, the director of the institute, Igor Ushakov.
"Indicative launch date experiment" Bion-M "№ 1 - 15-25 April 2013", - said Ushakov, "Interfax".
"During the" Bion-M "will be used by very diverse species. In particular, the Mongolian gerbil, the first time - linear mice, reptiles (geckos), fish, fruits and seeds of plants. "
He thanked the Russian Space Agency for the transfer of the launch vehicle for six months, as in the previous period - the fall or winter - working with animals would not be possible because of the short time after the landing light system and cold. "We have lost a significant part of the experimental animals. We are very grateful that we have met. In May it will fit, and it is the best time for such a unique experiment, "- said Ushakov.
A feature of this experiment on the previous run "Bion" will be that scientific data will be placed not only in the satellite, but also on its outer side, which will in part to test the hypothesis of panspermia, ie entry of life on Earth from space.
"It will allow to evaluate some hypotheses related to the emergence and spread of life in the universe. That is solved problems related to the evaluation of the cosmic conditions microorganisms placed in capsules and minerals that simulate pieces of meteorites that fall to Earth after the passage of the dense layers of the atmosphere. This experiment will continue work on the assessment of these theories. This is a whole separate fascinating scientific field - astrobiology, "- said Ushakov.
