Article :
Starchaser Industries of Manchester, United Kingdom has been awarded a study contract from the European Space Agency (ESA) - funding for a detailed assessment of the rocket group’s Thunderstar/Starchaser 5A public space travel vehicle.
The contract win comes under ESA’s Survey of European Privately-Funded Vehicles for Commercial Human Space Flight. Study funds are to verify and refine Starchaser’s space tourism concept, as well as the firm’s overall company plans to sustain a space tourism business.
In a statement regarding the ESA contract, Steve Bennett, Chief Executive Officer for Starchaser Industries, said his group is “determined to ensure that Europe doesn’t miss out on the potentially huge space tourism industry.”
The reusable Thunderstar/Starchaser 5A space tourism vehicle could begin regular flights from New Mexico’s Spaceport America as early as 2009, a company press statement noted. This vehicle is being designed to transport one pilot and two passengers to the suborbital heights with return to Earth under parachute.
