"2057 - Our Life in the Future": a landmark 'docu-drama' series on German and Franco-German channels ZDF and arte
Who would not like a glimpse of our world in 50 years' time, or, at least, a vision of 2057 as seen by the world’s leading futurologists?
Over the next three weeks, ZDF and arte will broadcast a 'docu-drama' series co-produced with Discovery US. The one-hour programmes will focus on the challenges ahead for mankind, with a theme central to our future as the subject of each episode: 'man and health', 'town and mobility', 'world and energy'.
As a future without space is difficult to imagine, ESA, too, had a role to play in this production. For the drama part of the last episode on 'world and energy', many scenes inside the fictitious space station were, in fact, filmed at ESTEC in the Erasmus User Centre. ESA, DLR, NASA and leading universities provided scientific advice for the documentary elements of the production, which concern high-efficiency solar cells that play a central role in the dramatic plot of part III.
The series was broadcast by Discovery in the US in late 2006. A wealth of background information can be found on the following website:
